Kolyma snow sheep, Magadan region, August 2023

After last year's successful hunt for the Okhotsk snow sheep, I immediately wanted to take the Kolyma snow sheep in the 2023 season. As a result, I managed to quickly contact a proven organizer (Alexander Klyatsyn) and book the tour. For me, the unusual format of the hunt was of particular interest - I had to travel and live on a boat and hunt along the coast of the Okhotsk Sea. For the first few days of the hunt, it either rained or there were no trophy specimens. The first few days of the hunt either it rained or no trophy specimens were caught. On the 5th day of the tour the sun shone in the morning and we started to explore one promising place from the boat and almost immediately saw trophy specimens. I decided to shoot. The sheep (9 years old) lay down with the first shot and practically rolled to my feet. I shot from 375 metres, angle +30 ° (Blaser R8, 300 Win Mag, 210 Berger VLD Hunting).

Hunting for Yakut snow sheep

Logistics to the hunting site was quite complicated - about 60 hours. We got there by plane, by car, by boat. The hunt for Yakut snow sheep was prepared at the highest level. Scouting the area allowed us to detect small groups of sheep almost immediately. At this time of year, all the sheep graze high. The ascent was 700 meters. The wind was blowing in our backs and we were worried that the sheep would smell us and leave the rookery. Basically, that's what happened. When we climbed the ridge, the animals were already moving away from us. We quickly chose the largest male, I got permission to shoot and fired it. The distance was 415 meters, the angle was -5 degrees. The sheep collapsed into the ravine dead. It turned out to be a 15 year old male.

New Zealand

Hunting in New Zealand!  For a long time I wanted to hunt in New Zealand, but a very long flight always stopped me. Finally this year I decided and flew, which I am very happy about! The nature is amazing, hunting is not difficult!

Hunting for Dzungarian ibex in Kazakhstan

Leaving Almaty at 5 am, having travelled about 800 km in 12 hours, we arrived at the base camp, located in a picturesque place of the Dzungarian ridge at an altitude of 3000 m. Having a quick snack, having shot rifle, we moved out on horses for hunting. After leaving the base camp, we spent the night at an altitude of 3500 m above sea level. We got up at 4 am, quickly got ready, and with dawn we gradually ascended to the ridge. We found several groups of trophy-quality ibexes, but the guides said we could find better ones. At 7:30 am we found ibexes on the opposite ridge under glaciers about 2 km away. On the road down the gorge the maral were grazing, with females grazing on the slope. We waited half an hour for them to go to the rookery and started the approach. We left our belongings on the road and climbed higher on horses. Then, leaving the horses we overcame another 250m of altitude on foot, climbing to 3700m. First on a rock across the gorge we found 3 ibexes at a distance of 650m. A little way down and round the cliff we saw a magnificent lying ibex at 240m. Whilst trying to get him on camera I was detected by ibex. He became wary. Seconds counted, quick preparation, shot. A 132cm horned Dzungarian ibex was taken. On the same day we returned to the base camp, having covered 26 kilometres during the day. The total ascent was more than 2000 m. The whole hunt took 1 day. Excellent organisation of the hunt, professional guides.

Hunting in Kazakhstan, 2023

Since 2023 the hunting season in Kazakhstan opens from 15 July.  The weather did not favour us, it rained every day. The hunt took place at an altitude of 3700-3800 meters above sea level in the Bayankol hunting farm. On the second day of the hunt, after lying in the rain for more than an hour, I missed from a distance of 480 meters, angle +27 °. The bullet went a little to the left, I didn't take the wind into account. Then there were two more attempts. Once, frightened by a fox, the ibexes did not come down to the shooting distance. Another time, when we started our approach and made a big circle, a wolf appeared and chased several herds of ibexes up to the glaciers. Only on the 5th day of the hunt, after standing under heavy rain for about 2 hours, in the fog we came face to face with a herd of 11 ibexes. While I was getting the rifle out of the case and the rangefinder, the ibexes had gone far away. When we reached a distance of 500 metres, +25 °, we managed to shoot and get a 9 year old ibex. Three times we changed camp. Rode horses, walked quite a lot. The guides did a professional work.

Hunting in Uzbekistan. Urial - TOP 10 of the World.

This trip turned out to be two completely different hunts. We had to hunt for a ibex at an altitude of 3500 meters. Since at this time of year males keep on the peaks near glaciers. During the search for the animal and approach to it there was rain, snow, hail and all this in strong wind. And hunting for urial took place in the southern part of Uzbekistan at altitudes up to 2000 meters, and the temperature was under +40 °C. The ibex was taken at a distance of 250 meters, the urial - at 500 meters and an angle of +27 °. Local huntsmen said that they have never seen an urial with such size of horns. Thanks to the company Profi Hunt and Behrouz (organiser) for a perfectly organised hunt.
