On 24 August 2023 we went hunting for Siberian roe deer in the Kurgan region at the Miasskoye hunting farm with a group of fellow hunters. It was a beautiful farm, professional hunting staff, wonderful accommodation conditions and high density of animals. We took 7 roe deers and returned home satisfied and happy.
It was my first mountain hunt. I had been preparing for it for more than a year, I learned to shoot up to 1000 m, did physical training (cross-country skiing, running). In the end all this gave the result! I managed to take a good trophy on the first day of hunting! 11 hours of walking up/down the rocky area with a slope of 70 ° and in the end 14-year-old Kuban tur was taken! The shot was made from the top of the cliff down a slope of 50 °, a distance of 95 m. In almost ten years of hunting this was my hardest and happiest hunt! Many thanks for the very professional work of the huntsman Artur, who climbs rocks better than turs and thoroughly knows his lands and habits of the beast!
This hunt took place in the second half of August and was surprisingly very easy, fast and even fun. I arrived at the hunting grounds and immediately felt wide and kind Caucasian hospitality. I was warmly welcomed and accommodated in a hotel at the hunting grounds in a presidential suite with a stunning view of the enchanting mountains. The receiving party represented by Kazbek Georgievich gave a briefing, I signed the safety rules, got all the necessary documents to enter the border zone, was warned that here are really the highest and rocky mountains in contrast to other "mountain avenues" and went to pack for the hunt. At 3:00 am I met with the guides (Valery and Alan), jumped into their UAZ and in an hour we were already on the spot. The hunt took place in the border zone between North and South Ossetia. We looked around the car, found nothing and realised that we would have to sweat, so we went uphill with Valery. Alan went to another mountain to adjust our actions and reconnaissance from a different angle. After we climbed the mountain, Alan radioed that a lone goat was wandering behind our mountain. We started to look for him, but all was unsuccessful, as if the trail was gone, the goat had disappeared. Valera suggested to sit and look for it with binoculars. By this time I was a little tired, probably because of the "wide Caucasian hospitality", by the way, for the same reason I tried to shoot the gun the day before, but everything was in vain - the bullets flew wherever they wanted, but not to the target. We had to move to the mountains without training shooting. So, Valera started looking for our future trophy, and I decided to sleep at an altitude of 3000m. I don't remember how long it took, but I definitely had a dream. In the end I was woken up and we went to look for our trophy further up the mountain. We walked along the edge of the ridge and looked in all directions. Surprisingly, the chamois was looking at us the whole time, but we didn't see it. For about 20 minutes, probably, we were gaining altitude, and the chamois kept lying down. And when we saw it, it also decided that it had enough of lying down and got up, then stretched, apparently I was not sleeping alone at that moment. The shooting position was very uncomfortable - 40 degrees angle down, there was almost no support. While we were running down the slope looking for a suitable position, the chamois started to move. Eventually a suitable rock was selected, the position was taken, corrections were entered and the shot was taken. Despite the fact that the practice shooting was abysmal, the chamois lay down on the spot, the bullet hit the target. The altitude of the shot was at 3100, distance 290, angle -40 degrees. I would like to thank my guides Valery and Alan for coordinated work and my sleep during the hunt. I haven't had such experience yet)))). I would also like to thank Artem from ProfiHunt company for the fact that I was able to buy this trip at the MHC charity auction. This hunt was fully organized by ProfiHunt.
This time I visited the Karachay-Cherkess Republic to hunt Kuban tur. This hunt was purchased through the well-known company ProfiHunt. And at once I would like to say a huge thank you to Artem for delivered emotions. Now about the hunt. I met with guides Vladimir and Andrey, jumped into a tuned UAZik and drove to the grounds. One of the things I love mountain hunting for is its natural beauty and atmosphere. This hunt was no exception, as our route took us through the Arkhyz resort, wonderful gorges, rivers, mountains and forests. Arkhyz is convenient because after the hunt on the way back I could stop at a hotel with a swimming pool and have a good rest there. We arrived to the base camp late in the evening, prepared our backpacks and went to bed. The next day we had an early rise, the hiking route to the "flying" camp took 3 hours, most of the road along the river, along the edge of the forest, in the shade. The last hour was a climb up the mountain, it is a bit exhausting, but it is a mountain hunt, there is no way without it. On arrival to the camp everyone had a little rest and in the evening we went hunting. Evening dawn passed quietly, we saw some good turs, made a plan of action for the next day and just walked around beautiful places. The morning dawn was already encouraging. We stormed the mountain near the flying camp, the second guide (he was on a different route) spotted a couple of aurochs and informed us by radio, but further our way led to a female tur. She was standing on the opposite side of the cliff (200 meters from us) and wouldn't let us pass. We were afraid that she would start whistling and scare away the horned ones, which we had not seen yet, but we knew they were around. To our misfortune we scared off the ulars and it started..... The ulars flew up, screaming for the whole area. The female got up and immediately spotted us and of course started whistling and rushing around the rock. Why she did not leave, I did not understand, she was just spinning around her place on the cliff face and whistling for about 10 minutes. All this time I carefully watched its behavior with binoculars, it was very interesting. Suddenly I hear my guide Andrei running (he was looking for a way around) and whispering: "The bulls, the bulls are coming." Indeed, I completely forgot that I had come to hunt and not to watch the programme "In the World of Animals". I quickly hide behind a rock, pull out my 300 Orsis and look for my horned mail in the optics. In this case both ulars and a female tur helped us, otherwise these turs would have been lying in the gorge and we would never have found them there, as there was no approach. The group consisted of 5 bulls, two of which were the most interesting. We chose one of "ours", I measured the distance, angle, wind, calculated corrections on the calculator, set the sight to the necessary values, quickly remembered the corrections that would need to be made in case the beast would quickly move away to long distances and prepared to make a shot. BANG. As usual it all went rather chaotic, as the bulls were really moving to the shout of the female uphill. I hit the front shoulder blade but the beast held on!!!! I am amazed every time at how strong mountain hoofed animals are. The herd moved sharply uphill, and our bull staggered stood for 1-2 seconds and started to follow the herd. One of his legs was immobilized, but nevertheless he was moving forward. Andrey said that he was about to fall, but after a few seconds we decided to take a control shot to keep the bull on the steep cliffs. Andrey said "distance", I remembered the corrections and fired. That's it, the trophy is taken!!!! The second shot hit exactly the same place as the first one (bullet in bullet), but the bullet came out through the neck. The shot was fired from a comfortable 300 meters at an altitude of 2505 meters. I would like to say a special thanks to the coordinated work of the guides. These guys are real masters of their craft! Vova and Andrey, with you we can definitely get a high-class trophy!
The next day, early in the morning, we moved out in the other direction already on the Chukotka side. The weather was cloudy and cold. According to the forecast the mountains were open till the afternoon. We were ready to go back, but we noticed sheep halfway up the mountain. Fast enough approach and again a long wait. A shot from 127 metres allowed to get an excellent 13 years old trophy! And suddenly the weather changed and the sun came out and the mood rose!
Three days were allotted for the hunt. Karachay-Cherkessia met us with beautiful weather. On the first day we climbed to an altitude of 3500 metres. We watched a group of good turs for a very long time! Practically at the end of the day the group started to descend to the pasture. Within 15-20 minutes the turs descended, reducing the distance to 100 metres. Immediately, I shot one of the males with good trophy qualities! KUBAN'S TUR had been taken! I have a new replenishment in the trophy room! Patience is rewarded!
This year turned out to be very hot and dry. There are no mushrooms, berries. Sheep moved to another area, besides, another hunter fired 9 shots at the place of small sheep cluster. Therefore, to get my sheep I had to walk with a rifle over my shoulders for 3 days about 36 km. The total ascent was 2300 metres. The group of sheep was discovered by an experienced huntsman. The approach to them was 2,5 hours. The animals were resting. The distance was 525 metres, angle +15 °, side wind with gusts up to 3-4 m/s. We chose the biggest and oldest male. The Okhotsk sheep turned out to be 13 years old. The rule "one shot, one animal" worked on this trip.
In early August, my friend and I hunted a sheep in Central Kamchatka. All days, except the day of arrival and departure, there was fog and rain. Every day we did not leave the camp before 10 a.m., waiting for good weather. And two days we did not leave the camp at all. The whole time we were in the mountains we were accompanied by hordes of mosquitoes, which disappeared only in strong winds. BUT, nevertheless, we managed to get each a ram. Both my friend and I had shots at 120 meters. Often, poor visibility simply did not allow shooting from a longer distance. I got my sheep on the last day of my stay in the mountains. Many thanks to the organizers Evgeny Valentinovich and Semyon from "Ipuin", the guide Volodya and the cook Vasily. And the dog Bretta, who kept the bears away from us.
