In mountain hunting, even a relatively small but hard-earned trophy can often be far more valuable and a greater source of pride to the hunter than an easily achieved record. The true personal value of any trophy is always determined by the hunter themselves.
However, to promote a biologically sound approach that focuses on harvesting the oldest males, CMH has decided to set a minimum age of 7 years for trophies to be registered. This decision is reflected in the CMH Trophy Regulations and has been in effect since 01/08/2021.
At the same time, while respecting the finest hunting traditions, the Mountain Hunters Club officially introduces the SCI trophy measurement system. There are several reasons for this:
- A single system of measurement is necessary to settle long-standing gentlemen’s disputes;
- The introduction of the SCI system will allow accurate tracking of trophies harvested in different regions and by different hunting organisers, as well as enabling comparisons with the SCI Record Book, which is the most comprehensive collection of hunting trophy measurements in the world;
- It is the most modern and widely used trophy measurement system, particularly in the United States, and is now employed by the majority of mountain hunters, as opposed to the CIC system;
- The SCI system also ensures transparency and consistency in the measurement of hunting trophies globally.
Trophy measurement is optional and at the discretion of the hunter.
