Hunting for the Siberian Ibex in Sayan

In October 2020, I hunted for the Siberian ibex. The hunt was organized on the territory belonged to LLC Ijir. The trip was organized on the high level and the animal’s density was more then enough. I got the trophy in the first day from 200 m shooting distance. The used rifle was Blazer WinMag 300, cart. 210 Berger. The taken ibex was 12 years male with the horns 101 and 98 cm. Thank you very much to my friend Sergey Razzhivin for his help in this trip organization.

Hunting for the Siberian Ibex

In early morning we detected the group of ibexes. Several animals in the group had good sizes. It was not easy to get the trophy and took us about 5 hours to approach the goats. The shooting distance was 195 meters. Thank you very much to the High Hunt Pro company for the organization of the hunt and full support.

Hunting for the Kuban Tur

It was the most breathtaking and difficult hunting adventure! The way to the hunting place took us almost all day. It was evening when we arrived to the wooden cabin with the stove, good cots and the solar panel. Everything was done for a comfortable accommodation on the 2130 m altitude. In eary morning we left the camp and rode to the mountains. At noon we reach the height 2650 masl, tied horses and went further. We walked on the grass but then the path changed to the stones. At last we climbed 3200 masl and it took us two more hours. I stayed on the rock and started to monitor the surroundings while two guides went to look for turs. We detected the lonely male while we were ascending. It watched us for a while. I measured the distance -470 m but the angle was to big and the male stood not in the good position. Moreover, I had enough time and we decided to wait for another moment. The weather was fine! There was no wind, the sun was shining on the sky decorated by few feather clouds. In two hours one of the guides came back and told me that his fellow found the tur, laid between rocks and we could try to approach it. We rose just by the cliffs to the top. The altitude was 3530 m, then we went along the ridge about 400 meters more. The second guide, who monitored the animals, waited for us. The rangefinder showed 370 meters, but... The male laid just behind the stones and I could see its horns and a part of the head only. There was not any sense to shoot until it would stand up! We decided to wait when it’d stand for feeding. It was 4.30 pm. In an half of an hour later one more Tur appeared on the opposite slope. It stood in the center of the saddle, observing the valley. It was clear that the male was going to go down to grass. Few minutes later seven males more came from behind the slope, they were looking around and slowly moved to our side. The distance between us was 670 meters but it reduced. We were in a very good position, in the shadow, the animals couldn’t see us because they moved on the sun and there was no wind. There were rocks just in front of us on the descend and the problem was that we wouldn’t see the animals if they went down. We began to descend not losing sight of the male which appeared the first. The guide checked it with the binocular from time to time and we were reducing the distance. At one point, the tur from the rock stood up and we froze. Suddenly the female tur with the baby came from nowhere. They stood a little below gazing at us. We were afraid to move but the goat estimated the situation not in our favor and shrilly whistled. And one more! The males were far and didn't hear it. We began to go down fast, jumping from one stone to another and didn’t pay attention to that traitress. But suddenly the guide gave me the signal to stop and gestured the turs were just below us. We lost the lonely male and I concentrated on the group and started to prepare for a shot. It took few seconds, I put the rifle on the pods on the stone, made al settings, switched on the light and send the cartridge to the chamber. I had no time to measure the distance, the group was moving. The distance was not more then 200 meters! I couldn't take the breath after the running and it was not comfortable to shoot from that position. My mouth was dry, and my heart was pounding in my neck... At that moment I felt that wouldn’t be able to rise that place once again next day and it was the only chance to get the trophy. I felt calmness. I chose my tur, caught its shoulder blade in the crosshairs but the young male jumped and closed it. The guide, who stood near me whispered: “Shoot. Why do you hesitate! They’ll leave!” The groups disappeared behind the next boulder and showed in 50 meters. I hesitated a little when lost “my male” but then found it, caught once again, made correction to the distance and gently press the trigger. 30 06 broke the silence of the mountains. I clearly saw the male became bigger for a moment, lifted to its feet but then immediately run to the rocks and disappeared. “You missed!”- shouted the guide. “ The bullet flied above it! Shoot one more time! But where?! There are not of them. I kept silence. Not saying a word, I descended and went behind the rock where made pictures with my trophy of the Kuban Tur! The way back to the horses took us four hours in the darkness. I didn’t feel my legs. The mistake was that I used the new mountain shoes which bought just before the trip and didn't guess the size. I brought down fingers in the blood while we were going down. The guides took the trophy on the next day. Thank you very much to the outfitter Alibek Khapaev and to my guides Rashid and Murat.

Altai ibex hunting

Once again I arrived for hunting to Altai. We hunted not far from the Belukha mountain- the highest peak of the Gorny Altai. The group of ibexes had been detected on the height 2800 masl. It consisted of 3 adult males with the definite colour and four young ones. I chose the biggest one and got it from the first shot. But we had to go down to find it and then to rise with the trophy. Later in the same day we changed the location and I took the trophy of maral. Next morning we continued to chase the wounded male because didn’t have enough time in the previous day.  The guides found the bloody track and we followed it. The animal tried to move to the valley. We chased it for about 2 km and got it at last with the help  of a dog, one of the guides had.
