Tajikistan, February 2021

I hunted in Tajikistan from 7th to 13th February. The trip was organized by the Murgab company. We started our expedition from hunting for Bukhara urial in the Kulaybsky district. The density of animals’ population is high and hunting wasn’t hard. I shot from 200m at the angle 40 degrees down. On February 9 we moved to Pamir in Murgab. The Base camp was located on the height 4200 masl. At the first day I got the trophy of 10 years old ram of Marco Polo, 58,5 inches. The shooting distance was 465 m. All my guides were very professional and worked well.

Pakistan 2021

I hunted in Pakistan from 24th of January to February, 1st. We started from hunting for a Blue sheep near the town Sost. It took us three hours to fly by chopper  from Islamabad to Sost and then we drove to mountains. It was about 4 pm when we reached the place where stayed for a night. Next morning we left the camp and moved to another one looking for the animals while driving. The temperature at night dropped to -250C. It was cold in the cabin where we slept and I couldn’t relax. We went for hunting at 4.30 am and it was really cold yet. On the sunrise we saw the snow leopard’s tracks, not less then three of them. The guides said that it was a bad sign because sheep preferred to go away from such neighbors. At the sunset we managed to detect the group of sheep at the end of the gorge.  We had less than three daylight hours to approach them but we did it. I shot from 460m distance and up. My trophy became 11 years old male. It was dark when we came back to the camp. That day we walked more than 13 hours on the heights more than 4300masl. It was really tough. We spent three days in Sost and then moved to Chitral for hunting for a markhor. It took us just one day to get the trophy though we spent about 12 hours to look for a good one. We walked around the mountain massive several times hoping to find the animals. But all males, we met there were small, but the guides went on to assure us that there was a good one. We found it about 4 pm. One hour we climbed and it was a twilights when I could fire. The shooting distance was 539m at angle 41 degrees. The guides didn’t allow we to go to the trophy because were not sure that I could descend in the darkness. We carried it when it was night already but were happy in any case. Hunting there isn’t difficult because the density of  animal’s population is high but almost all of them are young.

Chamois in KCR

At November 2017 I hunted in Karachay-Cherkessia, in the Elbrus district. My guides were Kemal and Novrys -the professional guides who knew what they did. The weather was fine. The hunt was organized on the height 1800 masl and the average temperature there was -40 . In early morning we detected the group, grazed on the slope in several km from our km. We tried to approach them, what took us 3 hours, but they left that place when we came. Kemal suggested to stay on the place and to wait when they’d come. And he was right! In an hour the lonely male appeared. It was in 857 m from us and was moving away. I decided to shoot and got it. It was my personal record for a long- distance shooting.

West Caucasus chamois

At November 2017 I hunted in Karachay-Cherkessia, in the Elbrus district. The hunt took place on the height from 1600 to 1800 masl. We were lucky with weather. It was fine all days while we were there. The density of population there is high and we saw lots of animals while hiking there. On the third hunting day we detected the group of animals and tried to approach. There was no way to come closer and I should fire from 620 meters and hit the aim! It became my own record for a long- distance shooting. The trophy was a big male but with small horns. The used rifle Tikka Т3 кал. 300 WM.

Hunting for a Pamir Ibex.

Once again, I hunted with Yuri Matisson on Pamir. At last we had happened to reached the Belangrik gorge where the river with the same name flowed. It was a real Lost World. There was nothing except wild animals and high mountains. I spent few days in the Base camp, located on the height 4000 masl. That time I needed for acclimatization. Then we should hike 20 km more to the next mobile camp and to go for hunting from there. My goal was to get the trophy with horns not less than 120cm. After 7 hours hiking, we accommodated in the second camp. Nasreddin Musaev- the 71 years old hunter, who worked with Yuri for many years, met us there. After that hunt I was going to go with him to Jirgatal and to hunt for a Gissaro-Alai ibex.   I accommodated in a single tent. The temperature at night was about -15o C. The weather in the afternoon was sunny and windless. Nasreddin told us that monitored the group of ibexes, led by the old male, with 130cm horns. But animals crossed the ridge and moved to the next valley just above our arrival. We followed them. Our group rose the upper ground 4400 m and spotted a big group of ibexes. There were not less than 50 individuals. They all were different ages including the big ones. We shared into two groups. And the smallest one began to approach the herd. The wind blew into our backs what was not good. It took us a couple of hours to cover 5km distance. We managed to crawl up being invisible to 550 meters. Ibexes laid down to have rest but were on their guard. We spied the biggest male, in the center of the group but it was closed by other animals. Suddenly they smelled us and ran to the mountains all together. It was impossible to fire because the needed male was constantly covered by others. And in a split second I caught it in the crosshairs and shot. The shooting distance was about 600 meters. I got it. Then we rose to the place where it laid. It happened on the height 4800 masl. The traditional photo session. The length of the one horn was 128cm and the second one was shorter because of the broken tip. That day we hiked 20km and crossed twice the ridge of 4400 m high. It was dark when we came back tired but happy.
