Hunt for Carpathian Chamois in Romania

I arrived to Romania at the end of November 2017. It was quick and original hunt. It was a little bit late for the hunt for Chamois but we were lucky with the weather. After the short climbing we noticed the chamois which was in 1km from us and started to approach it. We moved when it looked to the side and stayed when it gazed at us. We managed to approach 350m, and it started to get nervous. I fired twice. I wounded it by the first shot and got by the second. It was the nice sample of the Carpathian Chamois. On the way back we saw the bear which crossed the pass not far from us. Thank you very much to the Stalker Group for the organization of this hunt.

Fortunately I saw one more group of turs. I fired and got the trophy of the Kuban Tur. Thank you very much to Ali and Ivan Ufkina for this hunt.

Hunt for Balkan Chamois in Makedonia

I arrived to Makedonia in September 2016. The weather was rainy with fog. First day we trekked a lot but didn’t see any trophy size chamois. In the mid of the second day I noticed the chamois not far from us. I fired several times and wounded it. It ran behind the rock where we took it. I used the rented Chezet cal. 30-06, distance was 230m. Thank you to the Stalker Group for this hunt.

Hunt for Pyrenean Chamois

We drove to the small town of Benasque which is located on the 1140m height in the Aragon Pyreneа to get the Pyrenean Chamois. The town is surrounded by a ridge of mountains 3000m each and covered with dense vegetation and adjacent to the glaciers. After arriving we had a short rest and then moved to the mountains at 5 pm. The weather was nice and calm. We drove about an hour on the serpentine and climbed to 2120m height when noticed two chamois which pastured on one of the peaks. Alexo and me decided to follow one of them which had good trophy features. We walked about 700m crossing mountain springs, then stopped and discussed how to reach it. There was a natural gorge by the right side which we could use to hide and went up.  We climbed 2260m and the chamois noticed us and started to go down. I had to shoot immediately.  I got it from the first shot and hit to its spine. I used Blazer R93, 300RUM, the sight Leopold 4.4-14, the distance was 180m. It was 13 years old male with nice horns. The hunt was organized very professional  on the high level. Our guide Jose Ramos made scouting in five days before our arrival and knew which chamois inhabit in that area and where to go. Thank you very much to the Stalker Group and to Alexo and Jose Ramos.

My first Spanish Ibex

Three days we were looking for the Ibex and couldn’t find them. At the end of the day 3 we noticed them. I fired from the distance 250m and got the Beceite Ibex.  I used Blazer R93, 300WM. Thank you to the Stalker Group and Alexo for this hunt

Hunt for Gredos Ibex in Spain.

We flew to Madrid. All customs procedurs didn’t take much time. I took my Blazer R93, 300wm. We had lunch in our favorite restaurant  'Asador las Esparteras", located on the way to the base, had tasty roast pig from the stove. Accommodation was in the old castle "Parador de Oropesa".  We hunted together with my friend Alexander Levandovsky and it was quick. We climbed about an hour when noticed the group of Ibex. I chose the one with the good horns and fired. I got it from the first shot. It was nice trophy of the Gredos Ibex and my second Spanish trophy. Alexander also took the good trophy at the same day. Thank you very much to Anhel and Alexander for the organization of this hunt

Hunt for Cantabrian Chamois

I arrived to Madrid on 11/06/2018 to get the Cantabrian Chamois. The first hunting place was in the national park Los Ancares. We accommodated in the hotel which was done in the old castle near the picturesque village Canedo, surrounded by cherry gardens  and grape plantations. I rented Blazer R93, 300 RUM, the sight Leupold 4.5-14 and we drove for the chamois. The local guide and Alexo, the representative of the local company Baranco, accompanied me. We arrive to the spring and started to climb. In two hours we noticed the chamois  on the  opposite slope. It was rainy a little bit and mountains were covered by thick fog.  We lost it from time to time but tried to come closer. We approached 150m and I started to prepare, Unfortunately it noticed us and ran to the forest. I fired but the bullet was in 20 higher that it had to be. Alexo told me that it touched the tops of trees. The good trophy ran away. We walked all day but saw just females and even our guides were surprised by it. Next day we drove to the same area but to another mountain. After one hour of steep climbing we saw the chamois. I took comfortable position and was ready to shoot when Alexo stopped me. The guide wasn’t sure that it was male. While they were discussing it the rifle fell. When Spanish guys decided that it was male I fired. The distance was 150m but the bullet was higher once again and the chamois ran up to the mountain by the slope. I shot once again and hit it. When the rifle fell down, the sight's off to 20sm. It meant that I was so lucky that it run up vertically. I want to hit to its breast but hit it to the neck in 20 sm higher. So   I got Cantabrian Chamois! Thank you very much to the Stalker Group and Alexo for the organization of this hunt.

East Caucasian tur

I managed to hunt on the East Caucasian tur in the North Ossetia-Alania while was having a rest in sanatoria of the Jeleznovodsk city. A permission on the “Sanitary shooting” was given. The hunt took place in Daryal gorge on the territory of the Verhniy Lars in the foothill hunting lands. The mountains met us with the drizzle and the fog. However, when we achieved the height of 2000 masl, the sun was shining on the blue sky. About 16:00 a large herd of males of the East Caucasian tur was found. We started an approach and reached the distance of 326 meters. Shot, and the tur ran for 20 meters and fell down. I was very happy to take the trophy, congratulated each other. Five people took part in the hunt. I have been hunting with my grandson. Started to go down to the cars, when the pictures were done. We went in the darkness at about 23:00 in the evening. In the morning we were in Pyatigorsk. Thanks to everyone for the wonderful hunting and amazing views of the Caucasus Mountains. I invite everyone to have a rest on the resorts of the “Caucasian Mineral Waters”.

Iberia Mouflon. Spain. 12.12.2013

It was very easy hunt. It took us two hours’ drive from Kordoba.  We arrived to the private hunting farm. I was accompanied by the nature protection inspector, the owner’s lawyer and some other people. We used two cars and drove about half an hour when the guide detected the group of twenty mouflons which grazed on the slope. He pointed to the big and old one. The shooting distance was 300 m. I missed the first shot but the second one was accurate. The male just sat and dint’ move anymore. It was very good trophy , number 5 in the world by SCI classification.

Kazakhstan. 01.08.2017

The representative of the local outfitter met me in Almaty airport and we immediately drove to the Main Base.  It took us 10 hours. We spent a night there and next morning drove to the intermediate camp where we left the car and rode by horses to the final place (camp).  We spent two nights in the mountains before reached it. I was accompanied by the guide and his 14 years old son.  On the Day 3 when we were riding along the river the guides pointed to the goat which grazed in 410 m. from us. The male  was higher than we and I found the stone which used liked the prop. I made the one but accurate shot. When the guided took the trophy , it happened to be smaller than I asked. It was had 124 sm, what is the average size for that place.

Tajikistan. Pamir. 25.11.2015

First of all we drove from Dushanbe to Khorog along the Pyandzh River  there we changed the clothes and drove 5 more hours to the elevation 4300m. There was nice, comfortable base.  We arrived about noon and went to test guns. I tried to shoot at three different distances and it worked well. Then after 3 pm we drove to inspect the surroundings  and saw wolves when were driving back to the base. They were white and huge but I wasn’t allowed to shoot. Next day we drove to the hunt for Marco Polo. The car stopped near the gorge and we had to go to the place where the guided saw the sheep before.  It was tough and long way which I overcame not easy. The height was 4700 -5000 masl. It was difficult to breath and I had an awful  headache. The pills and energetics helped a little.  We reached the position at last and the guide pointed to the group of three males. The distance was 750m. I took off all clothe and laid. The first shot wounded the sheep and suddenly some more males came from behind the slope and I lost the wounded one. Soon they all lined up in a group and ascended slowly. The guided told me to shoot to the first one which lead the herd . The distance was 1 km. I missed the first shot but then pulled myself together, accounted its steps,  made other calculations and made the accurate shot. I used Scenar 338LM 250 grns. But the wounded sheep disappeared behind the ridge.  We had to hike one more km but I was very tired, then the guided who followed the animals came back and took the stone with the bloody track. We found the trophy next morning in ten meters from the place where it had been shot. Marco Polo 58".

Bezoar Ibex. Turkey. 16.12.2015

It was very easy hunt. Accommodation was in Hilton in the Erzincan town. First day we tested guns. Next day in the morning we drove to the nearest mountains, there was a little of snow and was very cold. We all monitored the slopes while driving and I realized that would have to shoot at a large angle. We detected some males but they were far from us. The guide made the decision to drive to the other gorge where our chances to find animals were higher. When we were driving the guide pointed to the two Ibexes which crossed the road. One of them ran behind the ridge while another one started to climb by the steep slope. I had few second to make the shot and I used this opportunity. It wasn’t easy to fire with hands but thanks to the large angle the gun rested on the shoulder. The bullet hit its head, between the eyes and didn’t damage the trophy. The distance was 150-180m. I didn’t understand anything when the hunt had been finished and we spent few days hiking and walking around the town.

Alpine Ibex, Austria, 08.12.2016

It was my second attempt to get the Alpine Ibex. I arrived to the place where I’d been before near the Graz town. It’s not far from Barcelona, I left it in the morning and was in Austria at 1 pm. We drove to the hunting area immediately. There were lots of hiking tourists and we had to be very careful. We found three males quickly . One of them was small but other two had trophy size. I had to use Blazer 300 which didn’t use for a long time. I made the shot when one of the Ibexes appeared from behind the Bush because the position and the distance (179 meters) were good. But the guides shouted that I got the small Ibex because I saw how the big one came behind the Bush but didn’t notice how the small one came to the same place. He was right, I understood it when the big Ibex appeared in a few minutes. It was my mistake and I paid for it. They didn’t allow me to get the second one because had just one license. It was rated for the Bronze classification by SCI.
