Hunting for Matison argali in Tajikistan

This hunt for Matison Argali took place in Murgab district of the Gorno-Badakhshan region, Tajikistan in Jan 2019. It was my 70th year birthday present from Edward Bendersky and I really appreciate it. Safar Bekmurodi organized everything on the lands of Murgab Company. My was PH Atobek Bekmurodi. The base is located on the height 4200m and has all necessary conveniences and even more to feel comfortable: hot water heating, swimming pools with hot mineral water. Temperature was -40C.   Transportation is done on Toyota SUV. All guides are very professional and full of energy. The main part of any hunt is the variety of animals and there isn’t any problem with it. Having all these components (professional staff and animals), the hunt was even easer then I expected before. Thanks to my luck I’ve got 8 years old male. The shot was made from the approach: distance 602m, the elevation 4400m, temperature -28C, down up under the slight degree. The bullet reached the male but he managed to leave with two rams through the pass. We didn’t have time to follow , it became darker. Next morning we divided in two groups and fount the ram on the bed near the pass. Atobek has took it successfully.

Hunt in Tajikistan

One more time I was hunting on the lands of Davlethan Muloerov in Darvaz. This time the object of the hunt was Mid-Asian Ibex. A lot of snow fell in the mountains before we arrived. It added a specific flavor to the hunt. I took the trophy on the second day by the first shot from the distance 500 meters.

Hunting in Kyrgyzstan

I hunted in Kyrgyzstan, Naryn Region in October 2018. In the first day we found the herd of animals but couldn’t come close to shoot. I’ve harvested Hume Argali in the second day: the height 4170 m, distance 380m, the angle 18 degrees to the target. I’ve got Mid-Asian Ibex on the third day. Distance 300m, the angle – 25 degrees, elevation 3900m. Rifle- Cristensen Arms 300 WSM. Clear weather. Temperature at night -10C, day -2C. Outfitter- High Hunt Pro company

Hunt in Iran, December 2018

Second time in Iran in this year and I’ve got three trophies: Esfahan Mouflon /Afghan Urial/ Transcaspian Urial. Everything is organized very well, good location for hunting. It took one hunting day per trophy though sometimes it was tough. Thanks to Ilya Dmitriiev and Safari & Expeditions.

Mid Caucasian Tur

I want to share my impressions from the second mountain hunt for Mid-Caucasian Tur. Telling the truth I’ve caught “mountain disease” after the first successful hunt.  Friends always pushed me asking “When I am going to the Caucasus for the new trophy to my collection”. I learned that there are several types of turs in the Caucasus.Well, I decided not to reinvent the wheel and ask professionals from #High Hunt Pro. Fortunately they had free date and license for this hunt in Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.  The hunter, who was going to hunt first, couldn’t arrive and I decided to use this chance, bought the ticket, collect all equipment and  went on an adventure! The representatives of the company met me at the airport and we drove the base camp. I enjoyed local views and compared them with the previous trip. Fog and drizzling rain are ordinary matter in the mountains in this time of the year and my companions assured me that everything would be well. In the base we had lunch, tested the equipment and guns and went to bed. In the morning the weather was much better and we decided to go to the hunting camp. The local guide told us that some trophy size males were seen near the camp. We left all extra things in the camp and started on the exploration. The beginners are lucky and soon we noticed 2 groups of males on one of the slopes. The guide defined the distance as  650-700m. The animals were feeding unaware that we kept watching over them.   While coming closer, the weathers started to change becoming worse and foggy, we didn’t have time. You know that storming the mountain even without extra weight isn’t easy. We had short rest, the rangefinder showed 370 to the target.  The weather became worse and worse and I could lose the chance to shoot.  I cuddled to the rock, adjusted the sight, stopped breathing  and pressed  the trigger. At that moment I realized that didn’t calculated everything right and overestimated my chances. The bullet hit the back of the animal. The herd rushed scatter.  But he was wounded and ran not so fast as others. I took the second cartridge and fired. The bullet hit near his legs. Probably each hunter knows this feeling when time stops. I inserted the third cartridge, took the breathe off and caught the target in the scope sight reticle. I was lucky that day and the tur slowed down. I made the final shot. The trophy broke down the front legs and began crawl down slowly.  I remember these seconds as if it took hours. The results of the hunt are one more trophy and unforgettable impressions.  I used Blaser 3006,distance 370m.I express my gratitude to all people who accompanied me during this trip and especially High Hunt Pro for great organization and nice trophy of the Mid Caucasian Tur.

Hunt for Dagestan Tur

It was my first hunt for Dagestan Tur in the North Ossetia in November 2018.  Early morning we rose up to 2400m where met the herd of young males. I took the Tur from the first shot. The distance was 180m.
