Persiandesertibex. Plenty of animals, however it seemed to me that they were very alert by the end of the season (hunting season lasts from the beginning of October to the end of February). We have seen nice trophy billies with the horn length about up to 105 cm.
The hunt is traditional spot-and-stalk. We’ve harvested one Ibex of 89 cm.
Jumping ahead of myself, I will say that we had to spend 4 days hunting for only one Ibex. All other trophies were harvested on the first or on the second day of hunt.
Only once we had to wait for the start of the next hunt according to the plan (4 days for each species). We spent 2 days sightseeing. All other hunts started right after the end of the previous one. As a result, we harvested 6 species and finished the hunt 1 week earlier than we’ve planned.
KermanSheep. About 4 hour drive to another hunting region. On the second day, in the evening, we spotted a separate group of two males and completed the stalk. Shootingdistance430 meters.
ArakSheep. The hunt wasorganized on the territory of Mooteh reserve. I have to say that populations of game were great – better, than in any African fenced farms. Herds of unalarmed goitered gazelles (of nice quality) and sheep. We spend about 4-5 hours here and saw over 200 sheep and over 300 gazelles. Missed a great ram of 28-29 inches at 250 meters and then took a nice one of 24,5 inches at 350 meters.
TranscaspianUrial. The20-minutedriveuptotheridge. There was a path, dividing the territories of the protected area and national park. It is allowed to shoot to the left and it is prohibited to shoot to the right. We noticed several herds of Urials both to the left and to the right. Of course, we wanted to find a trophy of about a meter, but mostly we’ve seen males of about 34-35 inches.
Next day we arrived again, walked for 50 meters and saw a group of about 30 males within 200 meters. They were moving very fast which did not allow us to aim at the right trophy. Tried to get them until they moved to the territory of the national park and we had to leave them. Wedecidedtosearchforanothergroup.
Went up for about 1,5 hours and spotted resting males at about 2 kilometers. Started the stalk. It took us about 2 hours to get as close as 480 meters. The trophy was a little over 37 inches. A great trophy and the largest one we’ve seen in two days.
Goiteredgazelle. We thought this hunt would be easy and fast, as the gazelle inhabited steppes, and therefore there was no need to climb up the mountains. However after we’d arrived to another reserve, we found out that this game almost never stopped and did not allow to get closer than 800 meters. Moreover, it was hard to tell the distance as the rangefinder could not grab anything. After about ten fails and a miss we stopped laughing… Next day we managed to harvest a trophy, which became highly desired by that time.
RedSheep. The hunting territory was located in 4-hour drive from the gazelle area, about 2 hours from Teheran.
By 4 p.m. we walked up to the group of rams. Missed shot from 300 meters. The rams split in two groups and one of those groups moved away. Another missed shot. The guide followed the moving animals and said they were not really scared and moved slowly. Wefollowedthem. Another missed shot from 400 meters. The rams ran away and we had to go back as the sun was going down.
Next day we went to the same region and located the group. In the afternoon, we took a nice ram of 87 cm. During the second day, we saw about 50 rams in total (males).
