The current range of the Nilgiri tahr spans 400 km from north to south in the Western Ghats, located in the south-western part of India (Kerala and Tamil Nadu). A significant population of tahrs inhabits the hilly terrain of Eravikulam National Park. Other population strongholds include the Nilgiri and Anamalai Hills, Periyar National Park, the Palani Hills, and various regions south of Eravikulam. The southernmost population resides in the Ponmudi Hills (Trivandrum District, Kerala).

* Due to the existing legislative restrictions on hunting these species, such a trophy may be considered if it was harvested with a special permit issued by the competent government authority of the country of origin. Additionally, these species may be included in the rating forms as a photographic trophy, but only under the Super 60 category.
