Regions
The Arabian tahr is genetically closer to the North African Barbary sheep and only distantly related to other species of tahrs. It inhabits mountainous regions in the south-eastern part of Arabia and is endemic to the northern mountains of Oman and the United Arab Emirates. The most significant populations are concentrated in Al-Gamkha, near Nakhal, in Wadi Kid within the Sarin Nature Reserve, as well as in Al-Qahwan and Al-Sabtah in Ja'alan. Other fragmented populations are found across various regions of Oman.
