This species is endemic to the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. The largest populations inhabit the Southern Carpathians, particularly the Făgăraș and Retezat massifs. It is also found at the southern end of the Transylvanian Alps in Serbia, within a limited area near the town of Zlot.
